Content Information

Technology for presentation and work preparation - computer and Teacher Resources. Your portable office can include a mini-scanner, digital camera and a printer. Because these tools are portable, they can easily be brought into a school to use with a student. It's always helpful to get a good case, cart or other container to protect these items and make the transport of these items easier.

Using a Teacher Web site is a great way to post your calendar, quizzes, and to communicate with families and students. If you have some favorite homework helper Web sites or other places that offer great review or extension activities, you could post these links on your site. No matter where you go, as long as you have Internet access, your favorite resources and materials are at your fingertips.

Curriculum Web pages are Web pages you can make as quickly as you would type a newsletter. So many programs allow for links to be "hot" within the software, such as Microsoft Word, Inspiration, and many others. These pages are used to guide students to Web sites pre-selected and appropriate for your lessons. These pages do not have to be put up on the Web. Any computer with Internet access can be used for the student to complete research or activities using the Web sites pre-selected for the Curriculum Web page.

For those teachers who have a laptop computer, you are able to bring your office with you. This can be extremely helpful for record keeping and presentation of information. There are many software programs that can be used for students to practice various skills. If a student uses a portable word processing device, such as a Dana or Neo, students' writing samples can be downloaded onto your computer. Many educational software programs also allow for tracking of student performance. This feature is really helpful for documenting student progress over time.

Many programs can be used to present information. The most commonly used multimedia/presentation program is probably Powerpoint. Presentations can allow for interactivity. Information can be presented in a linear or branching format. Multimedia can be incorporated including images and movies. Quizzes can be created that offer feedback and other programs and documents can be opened from within the presentation. A button could be added to open a word processing document already created with questions for the student to answer related to the presentation. To learn more about using PowerPoint and many other programs, visit our webpage with tutorials.
