Websites with Free, Copyright-Free Images

There are Internet sites that offer free graphics and images. They almost always have a statement about their copyright restrictions, so be sure to read that. It often stipulates that it is free for non-profit organizations and/or as long as you don't re-publish on another site. So be sure that you know how you can use things you download.

How to Download

If you find a picture/graphic that you like, either right-click (Windows) or click and hold (Mac). A window will pop up. Select the option to Download Image to Disk or Save Image to Disk. A window will appear, asking where you want to save your image. Find the folder you want to use and Save. You can now use the images on your worksheets, letters, web page (depending on copyright), etc.

#1 Free Clip art - http://www.1clipart.com/

This site has more than 10,000 images in over 300 catagories! Lots to look through!

Accuweather - http://ap.accuweather.com/apphoto/index.htm
This is a great photo archive. It is usually a subscription site, but you could register for a free account (it will have a time limit) and get the  pictures you need. You might also recommend this site to your school/district. It really is a good resource for teachers and worth the expense if your school/district would support the resource.

Andrew's GraphXKingdom - http://www.graphxkingdom.com/

This site has a lot to offer. I would not recommend this site for younger learners, there are lots of links to advertisements and other areas to lead the learner astray from their initial task.

ClipArt - http://webclipart.about.com/internet/webclipart/
Lots of links to clip art that you can use on tests, homework, classwork, newsletters, and in
classroom computer projects. E-mail me if you don't know how to download the pictures.

FreeImages.com - http://www.freeimages.com/

This site has many categories of images. These images look appropriate for those of you who are building your own web pages.

National Archives: The Digital Classroom - http://www.archives.gov/digital_classroom/index.html
To encourage teachers of students at all levels to use archival documents in the classroom, the Digital Classroom provides materials from the National Archives and methods for teaching with primary sources. [Thanks to Lisa Kennedy from Ocala for sending this site!]

Pics4Learning - http://www.pics4learning.com/
Are you constantly looking for copyright-free pictures to use around your classroom and in your classroom projects? Look no further. I've mentioned the OCPS PhotoShare site in the past. Now they are collaborating with Tech4Learning to bring you Pics4Learning.

The Amazing Picture Gallery - http://www.ncrtec.org/picture.htm
This web site is a search engine for pictures. You enter a word, and the Amazing Picture Gallery searches for pictures that relate to that term. This project is sponsored by the North Central Regional Technology in Education Consortium.

Clip Art for Foreign Language Instruction - http://www.sla.purdue.edu/fll/JapanProj/FLClipart/default.html
This site has a collection of line art drawings that were designed to be used for foreign language instruction, but can be used for any nonprofit educational purpose. There are drawings for verbs, adjectives, and nouns (buildings & places, food & drinks, people & animals, sports, things & events, time, and vehicles).

KidsDomain Icon Mania - http://www.kidsdomain.com/icon/links.html
http://www.kidsdomain.com/clip/index.html
Kids Domain is an incredible resource. This site offers icons, clipart, fun activities, much, much to explore! This is a great resource for making holiday or themed newsletters, cards, certificates, presenations, whatever you imagine!

Art Today - http://www.arttoday.com
This is another subscription based site. It has TONS of great resources - look into it if you are interested in subscribing to this kind of service.

You can find free graphics and/or images at the following sites. You will get a lot of pop-up ad windows at some of these sites. That's the penalty for looking for FREE stuff! :-)

Cool Tools - The following sites are collections of sounds, pictures, and games that are appropriate to use in the classroom:

School Web Clubs - http://supportnet.merit.edu/webclubs/
This is a resource site for students, teachers, parents, technology coordinators and webmasters in schools who would like to help students create or work on their school's web site by creating a club or special technology projects group. It contains examples and suggestions on how to set up club, links to types of projects your club can do, permission  forms, awards, and other subjects of interest to web club advisors and members.
